Payroll starts from each staff member’s basic salary, allowances and any reliefs. Every month, Fusadems works out:
- SSNIT: 5.5% from the staff member and 13% from the school, split into Tier 1 and Tier 2.
- PAYE: income tax on the chargeable income, using the GRA monthly bands in force for that month.
- Net pay and the school’s total cost.
When rates change
Tax bands change by law from a given date. Fusadems keeps each table with the date it took effect, so a payslip for an earlier month is still worked out on the rates that applied then.
Filing
The GRA & SSNIT app turns each month’s payroll into the PAYE schedule and the SSNIT contribution reports, ready to print or upload, and tracks the due dates.
Always check unusual cases (secondary employment, benefits in kind) with your accountant or GRA.
